Impromptu

Getting in the spirit of things circa 1957 at the Restaurant Patachou.  The two ladies in the center appear ready for an audition.  Must have been summer - I don't see any stockings.

From a DelCampe auction:

OPERETTE LA BELLE OTERO

More French television from the 1950s.

(the cancan ends about 1:20 - The quality is poor.)

This is from Chris Abbeville's extensive collection of videos from French television of the 1950s - 1980s (mostly vocal numbers):

Anna Vita

I'm not sure of the origins of this photo.  It looks like it might have come from one of the cheesecake magazines of the 1950s.  The photo's name is "Anna Vita".

Mordprozess Dr. Jordan

This photo is from an EBay auction for two stills from the 1949 German film, "Mordprozess Dr. Jordan" (The Murder Trial of Dr. Jordan).  This is a new one for me.  It will be worth keeping an eye out for a video of it.

You can see the auction at:

The Swirl

It's not a cancan photo at all, but I've always liked this image of a square dancer spinning with her petticoats flying and a look of exhiliration on her face.

It's such an old image that I can no longer identify the source.

A Charming Ensemble

An unknown group of showgirls poses for a publicity still.  The only information is that the photographer was G. Maillard Kesserle.

Bal Tabarin 1952

A lobby card for the 1952 film, "Bal Tabarin".   This is a bad movie, but a must-see for the performance by the actual Bal Tabarin dancers.  This image is from an EBay auction of some years ago.

Twinnie Wallen

Still photos from the Irving Klaw epic, "Varieetease."  The cancan in it is a bit on the awkward side.  I didn't see a You Tube of the cancan, although there are other videos of her in action.

The first photo is from the Cabaret_Berlesque Tumblr blog:

Cabaret_Berlesque has an extensive collection of photos, mostly burlesque and strippers, but with an occasional cancan photo thrown in.

See the site, which features nudity, at:
