Eleanor Powell - the Spin

These aren't cancan images, but spinning is one of the many steps in our favorite dance, and these are some nice examples.  Here Eleanor Powell shows she hadn't lost it even into the 1950s and 1960s, when these photos were taken.  See the originals at:

Re: Guest Post: LCCB - Day 2 Gallery and a Sepia Preview

Le Flatline didn't have to hi-jack this blog for his posting. Anyone who has taken the time to join and is a member ("author" in Blogger parlance) can post at Club CCD. Please do so. Some variety and different perspectives would be nice.

Spinning

Will she ever get dizzy?  This nice spinning gif is from wifflegif:

I believe the dancer may be from Gaslight (1940).

Guest Post: LCCB - Day 2 Gallery and a Sepia Preview

Howdy.  Le Flatline here, momentarily hijacking this blogerroo to let you know that the rest of the Dickens Fair 2013 photos are on the Intertubes:

http://stiffshots.smugmug.com/Events/Historical-Reenactment/Dickens-Fair-2013-Day-2

The photo example above (featuring, big surprise, some of Le Cancan Bijou) was a quickie sepia conversion - and actually something of a "parting gift" before I hopped on the plane back to New Jersey.  One of my goals over the last coupla years was to get a shot of LCCB lounging on top of the bar at Mad Sal's, and as luck would have it I wandered past just at the right moment.

So say hello to (from left) Cindy Lu, Vanessa River Yakabovich, "new girl" Meredith Sherwin, Barbara Pond, and Lizzie Lovelace - favorites all, and (with Meredith's addition) five of the reasons I make that transcontinental jaunt to San Francisco every December.

Ethel Mertz does the Cancan!

Who knew what a latent sex kitten Lucy's neighbor and pal, Ethel, was.  Vivian Vance, who played Ethel, does a cancan in this photo, which is offered on EBay by Argenta Images.  It can be yours at;

The Stolen Airship (Ukradená vzducholod)

Dancing on air; a misstep could be fatal  This is a still or videocapture from the 1967 Czech film, Ukradená vzducholod, and shows cancan girls dancing on a platform suspended from an airship.  Here's the write up:

http://monstermoviemusic.blogspot.com/2013/05/ukradena-vzducholod-stolen-airship-1967.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stolen_Airship

There is a video on You Tube.  I'm not sure if what is shown in it is the entire cancan scene or just a brief excerpt:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq-PG1AEnhs

It looks like the dancers actually were dancing on a suspended platform of some sort - brave girls.

Thanks to mythology000 for the link that led to the discovery of this image.

LCCB - A Preview of Coming Attractions

While eagerly awaiting Le Flatline's trove of pictures of Le Cancan Bijou and other attractions of the Dickens Fair, here's a striking couplet of black and white photos taken by micadew at this year's event and posted at Flickr:

Lizzi Waldmüller

German star Lizzi Waldmüller in a set of photos performing "Valencia Tanz" at a 1937 event called "Kabarett der Komiker: 300 Jahre Kabarett".   The costume isn't a cancan costume, but I like it, and she certainly shows she can kick with the best of them.  She did in fact do a cancan number in "Bel Ami".
