More new additions

Some new photos have been added in Cinema and in Footlights.  I apologize for the quality, but I don't have better versions of these.  Those in Cinema are in the French Cancan group.  The photo in Footlights is called, "Amazing."  Enough said.

Haunted Strangler Trivia:

Original Working Title:

Stranglehold. The film's 1956 screenplay had been written especially for Boris Karloff by b-grade mystery hack Jack Reed. The script eventually made it to the screen in 1959 under the title Grip of the Strangler.

Production Company:

Amalgamated. The company was set up in England by producer Richard Gordon specifically to develop Reed's Stranglehold script. Financial support for the project was provided by MGM, which is why The Haunted Strangler is often regarded as a British/American co-production.

Opening Night:

Grip of the Strangler opened in Picardilly Circus as a sole feature (unsual for the times), suggesting some degree of prestige and fanfare. The location may explain the movie's two exceptional cancan scenes: Picardilly was one of the traditional homes of the British cancan. Certainly, the costumes worn by Strangler's chorus girls hark back to the 1950s glory days of London's favourite music halls.

The film was eventually released in the US under its more familiar title, The Haunted Strangler.

So Long at the Fair

I added a couple of shots to the Cinema Album from "So Long at the Fair" yesterday.  I'm particularly fond of  "So Long at the Fair (E) - Oh my!"

Happy Holidays to all,

Bottoms Up! (Barbebleu)

Dear Barbebleu

I've taken the liberty of transferring the "Bottoms Up!" images into a seperate album - I thought they were so spectacular they required a special folder all to themselves. I've cleaned them up with photoshop and set them on a ferature page; take a look and let me know if you think I've done them justice.

Cheers,

Perry.

BOTTOMS UP

Retouched photos from the Girlie Mags album.

NEW PIX

Just saw the new pictures posted in Girlie Mags, Moulin Rouge, Cinema and Bal Tab. This is absolutely incredible. I haven't seen such first-rate material in a long time. I've always maintained that Golden Age photography is far superior to the modern variant; the images posted here go a long way to proving my point (particularly the work collected in the Girlie Mags album).

Thanks very much.

Perry

Thanks

Hi Perry and Barbe bleu

Just a quick note to add my thanks for setting up this new site which appears classic in every sense.

Bon Noel!

AduC

congrats

Congrats or is that cancangrats?
The website is a perfectly streamlined little museum to the worlds most luxuriant dance, giving it a proper historical perspective, that is definitely missing in other sites.

thanx again

Added a few more

I've added a mixed bag of additional black and white shots from our time period (or at least I think so).  They are scattered here and thoughout the Photos depending up the subject matter.  I don't think they have been posted before in the groups, although links to them probably have been.

Transferred images

I have copied a number of black and white images meeting our criteria from the other cancan groups.  Nothing new this trip, but it does create a centralized source for these classic images.  I will try to be more original with future postings.

A number of these are classified as being of unknown origin.  If anyone can identify them, as, for example, as being from the Moulin Rouge or from Bal Tabarin, we would appreciate it.
